The Lost Cloth Object by Stephen Burks Man Made

ALPI is pleased to present The Lost Cloth Object, a mini-collection by Stephen Burks Man Made, at the 20th anniversary edition of Design Miami (2–7.12.2025).

The initiative stems from the convergence of highly skilled workmanship in reconstituted wood at ALPI, and the cultural exploration conducted by Stephen Burks Man Made. Using wood, the Lost Cloth Object interprets the ancient art of Kuba, a traditional textile woven from raffia palm leaves in the Kuba Kingdom, now located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Kuba's geometric motifs have been translated into wood by using the veneers of the ALPI Legacy collection, a range of "lost" types of wood such as ebony, teak, wenge, rosewood and zebrawood.

In dialogue with the "Make. Believe." title chosen for this year's fair by the curator Glenn Adamson, The Lost Cloth Object is a consideration of design as a cultural practice that unites craft, innovation and legacy. For the installation, an organically shaped platform is set with geometrically decorated furniture – two rocking ottomans and a partition – as a twofold homage: to the graphic patterns found in Kuba textile art and to the radical creativity that Italian design is famous for.

With this project, ALPI continues its commitment to material experimentation in collaboration with international design talents, a path that commingles culture, innovation and beauty.
